Von einigen Alben wurden mehrere Versionen (Pressungen) veröffentlicht. Es gibt die erste Pressung, die für Sammler sehr wertvoll sein kann. Wenn diese ausverkauft ist, wird eine neue Pressung hergestellt, die Repress oder Neuauflage genannt wird. Diese können sich leicht unterscheiden, z. B. durch eine andere Hülle oder schwereres Vinyl.
Manchmal werden ältere Alben neu gemastert, um die Klangqualität zu verbessern. Auch dafür wird eine neue Pressung hergestellt. Unterschiede im Artwork oder kleine Produktionsfehler können eine bestimmte Version attraktiver machen.
Was macht den Preisunterschied aus?
Bei Platten, die nicht neu sind, wird der Marktwert durch Seltenheit und den Zustand sowohl der Platte als auch der Hülle bestimmt. Die Preisgestaltung basiert auf Angebot und Nachfrage und ob eine Version limitiert oder nummeriert ist.
Welche Variante soll ich wählen?
Wenn es hauptsächlich um die Musik geht, ist eine Repress eine gute Wahl. Eine Original- oder nummerierte Ausgabe hat eine andere Art von Anziehungskraft.

Original UK reissue by RCA of [r=2823685, in a non-laminated matt card sleeve with a new design; Printed in England by Robert Stace.
Note that this reissue drops track A2.2 'Don't Sit Down' that appears on the original 1969 release.
"Previously released on Philips Records SBL 7912" in front bottom right corner - text is in one line, other issues have split this into two lines.
Orange labels are semi-glossy, headers read: 'Side 1 Stereo' and 'Side 2 Stereo' and have four lines of text in white at the bottom in a semi-circle.
First catalogue number on cover and inner sleeve, 2nd on labels.
Titanic Music/Chrysalis publishing; no mention of MainMan anywhere on this release yet, except for the 'David Bowie - A Mainman Artist' entry on the back cover.
Matrix variants start at 'BPRS 4501 1E' and 'BPRS 4502-1E', subsequent issues may have MainMan replacing Titanic Music in the publishing credits and a MainMan logo on back cover.
Inner sleeve with lyrics printed in blue and pink, 'LSP-4813', 'Printed in England.', also crediting Titanic Music.
Some copies issued with a folded 21"x24" poster of the cover shot, also had a black & white peelable sticker stating: "David Bowie Poster Enclosed"; this is identical to the one used for the [r=926376 reissue, released simultaneously.

The variants shown on this listing include both, different stampers from the same lacquer cut as well as different lacquer cuts from the source tape. The first number & letter combination after the matrix number (eg BPRS 4502- 1E, 2E etc) indicates the sequence of cuts (1,2,3) and whether they were cut at RCA or not (eg E). It follows that each cut may sound different from others.
