Von einigen Alben wurden mehrere Versionen (Pressungen) veröffentlicht. Es gibt die erste Pressung, die für Sammler sehr wertvoll sein kann. Wenn diese ausverkauft ist, wird eine neue Pressung hergestellt, die Repress oder Neuauflage genannt wird. Diese können sich leicht unterscheiden, z. B. durch eine andere Hülle oder schwereres Vinyl.
Manchmal werden ältere Alben neu gemastert, um die Klangqualität zu verbessern. Auch dafür wird eine neue Pressung hergestellt. Unterschiede im Artwork oder kleine Produktionsfehler können eine bestimmte Version attraktiver machen.
Was macht den Preisunterschied aus?
Bei Platten, die nicht neu sind, wird der Marktwert durch Seltenheit und den Zustand sowohl der Platte als auch der Hülle bestimmt. Die Preisgestaltung basiert auf Angebot und Nachfrage und ob eine Version limitiert oder nummeriert ist.
Welche Variante soll ich wählen?
Wenn es hauptsächlich um die Musik geht, ist eine Repress eine gute Wahl. Eine Original- oder nummerierte Ausgabe hat eine andere Art von Anziehungskraft.

This is a repress of the second edition release with the extra track "Play Dead". It was pressed by Universal M & L in Germany.
Key characteristics are: (1) The last page of the booklet contains a "Made in England" reference and also mentions the Antonio Jobim sample. (2) The back cover shows a small white block next to the barcode. (3) The CD label contains a BIEM/MCPS reference on the centre-left. (4) The CD matrix has IFPI codes.
However, these characteristics are not unique to this release. There are at least eight more pressings ticking the above boxes, including four more Universal pressings. The only way to distinguish these pressings, and to identify one's version, is to examine the CD matrix carefully. A complete overview of all pressings can be found here.
